“We normally think of February as one of the coldest months, but the warmth generated by the more than 60 participants at the Valentine’s Banquet on February 11, 2023 would have melted even the coldest winter. You put the practice of cheerful giving to great use! You revealed your talents to one another and had incredible fun doing so. We knew we have talented children, but who knew we had such a talented auctioneer in our midst?
It is truly amazing, the quantity and magnitude of the talents held by Haymarket Baptist Church attendees. Athletes, artists, bakers, chefs, landscapers, researchers, singers and signers; we all have excellent gifts to share with one another. Thank you all for raising over $3,100 for the deaf ministry of Haymarket Baptist Church to allow a deaf delegation to attend the SBC’s national conference for the deaf.
As we look to Easter, let us remember the spirit of love that filled the room that Saturday night and how together we make a tremendous difference. We are so very grateful to Allan Smith for showing us opportunities right here in our backyard. How can we use our wonderful talents to help serve not only one another, but our neighbors like the Sweet Julia Grace Foundation, or Rainbow Therapeutic Riding, or Boxes of Basics or Carried to Full Term? There surely is a way to harness that spirit of service. Please pray about this as Allan answers his call to Gordonsville, VA. Ask yourself, what can I do to bring others alongside me, as Allan did, to make a great contribution to our community in the name of Jesus? Pray that God will give you the clarity needed to respond as needs arise.
The deaf ministry at HBC started from one single member, Betty Jo Goff, who had a passion to speak with others through American Sign Language. It’s a lovely story that she would likely share with you if asked. Let’s use what we have within ourselves to make a true difference for others, just as we have done for our own at HBC. We wish the deaf ministry God’s blessings as they continue to prepare for their summer trip. And we wish Allan well as he casts his net in the Gordonsville area. We on the Outreach Committee look forward to seeing how God calls you to serve others beyond the walls of HBC.”
