“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  Matthew 11:28-29(NIV)

The holiday season often brings a whirlwind of activity – shopping, cooking, decorating, and social obligations. Amid this flurry, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, burdened by expectations and the desire to create perfect moments. However, in the midst of our busyness, Jesus invites us to come to Him for rest.

Consider what it means to be “weary and burdened.” We may carry the weight of our to-do lists, the pressure to meet others’ expectations, or even feelings of loneliness and loss during what is often viewed as a joyous time. Yet, Jesus offers us an antidote to this stress: His gentle and humble heart provides a safe refuge.

When the stress of the bustling holiday season starts to creep in, and it most certainly will, we can take a moment to breathe deeply. Imagine placing your burdens at Jesus’ feet. Reflect on the things that weigh you down this season. Write them down, and then offer them to Jesus in prayer. Allow His peace to fill the spaces of stress and anxiety.

This month, carve out a few moments each day for intentional rest. Whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or simply sitting in silence, prioritize time with Jesus. Consider how you can simplify your holiday plans, focusing on meaningful connections rather than busyness.

As you navigate this season, remember that rest is not just the absence of activity, but the presence of peace. In Christ, you can find the calm you seek, enabling you to celebrate the true joy of the holidays.

Father God, as the holidays approach, help us to remember Your invitation to find rest in You. When we feel overwhelmed, remind us to pause and turn to You. Teach us to let go of perfectionism and embrace the beauty in simplicity. May we find peace in Your presence and share that peace with those around us.

In His Love,
